North
America Bangla Literature and Cultural Convention
As
we are in the new millennium, we will be gathering in a
comforting yet intellectually stimulating atmosphere in
Dhaka, Bangladesh to celebrate the 7th Bangla Literature
and Cultural Convention 2002. This convention will feature
engaging seminars, a poetry festival, stirring dramas and
musicals, memorable songs, and an exhilarating art exhibition.
The luminous whose intellect, wisdom, and practice have
redefined Bangla literature, arts and culture will be participating
in this gala event.
Dates:
December 25 & 26, 2002
Venu:
Hotel Sonargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Convenor:
Dr. Mustafizur Rahman (Dhaka) Seminar: Rashed Hussain (Florida)
HOST:
MINSTRY OF CULTURE, BANGLADESH DHAKA UNIVERSITY, BANGLADESH
Over
the past several decades, a diasporic third Bengal has emerged
throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and other
countries through the practice of Bangla literature and
culture. On the eve of a new century, do we really notice
any unique trend in our practice of Bangla arts and culture,
far away from our homeland? Many of us have wanted to discuss
these and other such evolving questions. This convention
presents such an opportunity, to exchange opinion and ideas
between talents in home country and us.
These
two days will be filled with warm receptions, idle strolls,
and several opportunities to participate in informative
and illuminating seminars and panel discussions. There will
also be competitions and programs for children and young
adults. A mix of programs will balance both our desire to
acquire knowledge and our craving for memorable performances.
We hope this convention will usher in a new feeling about
our culture and will excite and challenge our creative minds
for the new millennium. We invite you and your family to
come, attend, celebrate and enjoy this vacation, we assure
you the best.

A
YOUR GATEWAY TO BANGLADESH
A Discussion Forum with Honorable Minister Mirza Abbas
As non-resident Bangladeshis, we have a common interest
in public facilities and housing in Bangladesh. From the
moment we arrive in Bangladesh the every day nuances of
life there become evident. The issues of our life in Bangladesh
is painful, full of problems and that translates into a
loss of millions of dollars form the NRB money flow, investment
and countless jobs for Bangladeshi workers.
To
address these issues along with other organization, Bangladesh
Partnership has organized a discussion forum with the visiting
honorable minister for housing and infrastructure works
Mirza Abbas.
This
will be held on May 25 at 5 pm sharp.
Location : Home Style Inn Conference Room 6461 Edsall
Road, Alexandria.

We
have invited the minister on a basis that this is a non-political
gathering of Bangladeshi - Americans interested in the development
of Bangladesh and request that issues outside the following
should not be raised:
Housing,
Roads & Highways, Pollution and Slum elimination policy.
Proposals
& Solutions:
Other Issues Small business development centers around the
clusters, Multi-story housing complexes for junior-mid level
government, Land Record and Settlement issues, Plot Allocation
to Bangladeshi-Americans in large cities. Large slots of
land can be allocated so that Bangladeshi-Americans can
build their condominium complexes. Allocated lots should
be within the Rajuk/CIT Development zones, Development and
implementation of strict building codes to keep eyes on
poor building structure and infrastructure syndrome for
all new construction.
Note
: Owing to unprecedented response received to posting, the
Organizers are reluctantly forced to restrict attendance
to the discussion forum. Because of limited seating arrangements,
invitation is limited to members of the sponsor organizations
and individuals who wish to make a technical intervention.
The letter should submit a 25 word summary of their intervention
to Bangladeshpartnership@yahoo.com . The organizers again
wish to stress that this is a non-political forum, and that
there will be no opportunity to discuss political issues
