Bangladesh
Festival, organised by Asian-American Society of Central Virginia
(AASoCV), was held at Arthur Ashe Centre in Virginia on April
27, says a press release received in Dhaka on Thursday.
Bangladesh
and 10 other countries of South-east Asia are the members of
AASoCV. Bangladeshi community organised four booths at the Festival:
Bangladeshi Art and exhibit, Hands on Activities, Bangladeshi
Food and one Vendor booth.
At
Bangladeshi Art and Exhibit booth Bangladeshi traditional arts
and crafts including some of Zainul Abedin’s famous art works
were displayed. Some of the paintings of Asif Bahauddin Sikder
were there. Nakshi Katha (embroidered quilt) Jamdani sari, Reshmi
Churi (bangles), wood, leather and bronze hand crafted items
were also displayed.
At
the hands on Activity booth, Bangladeshi young girls painted
interested visitors’ hands with mehendi (henna). Also they made
paper toys for the children.
Delicious
Bangladeshi food was served Food booth. Their menu included
chicken roasts, beef curry, shabji vaji, motor polao, plain
rice and salad.
Bangladeshi
vendor booth had Sari and Shalwar Kamij. They had Mirpur katan,
jamdani sari, Tangail sari, Sopura silk.
There
were performances throughout the day. Rabindra Shangeet, Nazrul
Sangeet, and Bangladeh’s dances were presented on the occasion.
A Bangladeshi guest artist cam from as New Jersey and performed
semiclassical dance.
Bangladesh
representative of AASoCV Lutfa Haseen Rosy, Virginia State University
faculty member, was the organiser for Bangladeshi group in the
festival.
